DOT Dome Live Planetarium: Life of a Star (ENG)
In this show, astronomers from the University of Groningen take you to the farthest reaches of space. and tis isn’t just any movie: the presentation is live. So there’s plenty of opportunity to ask questions and let your curiosity run wild. After the show, you can ask everything you’ve always wanted to know about planets, stars, and the universe during a Q&A session.
Every star has a life story. We begin inside vast stellar nurseries, where clouds of gas and dust collapse to form newborn stars and planetary systems. From there, we travel to our own Sun to look beneath its surface, explore nuclear fusion and the delicate balance that keeps a star shining, and witness the magnetic activity, sunspots and enormous flares of the solar cycle.
But no star shines forever. Follow Sun-like stars as they expand into red giants and leave behind beautiful planetary nebulae and white dwarfs, while more massive stars race toward explosive supernova deaths. Their remnants lead us to some of the most extreme objects in the Universe: neutron stars, pulsars, magnetars and black holes. Along the way, discover how dying stars spread newly formed elements through space, providing the material from which new stars, planets – and ultimately life – can form.
