Second Voice 
is an intimate solo project by the Portuguese cellist and singer Diogo Martins, merging classical music with the songs and poetry of José Afonso (1929–87), a key musical figure during XX century's Portugal’s dictatorship. Afonso’s voice became a symbol of resistance and his music painted the background of the 1974 revolution that ended decades of repression. In "Second Voice", Diogo reimagines Afonso’s music through original arrangements for voice and cello, blending classical motifs with folk elements to create a moving tribute that transcends genres.
Born in 1999, Diogo Martins has performed solo at major venues and festivals across Portugal and the Netherlands, including TivoliVredenburg (Utrecht) and De Doelen (Rotterdam). A graduate of the Superior
 
School of Applied Arts (Portugal) and CODARTS Rotterdam, Diogo has worked with ensembles like the Doelen Ensemble and the Portuguese Philharmonic Orchestra, and is a founding member of the award-
winning Quartz Quintet.
