In een constructie die doet denken aan een speelplaats, wachten vijf muzikanten in stilte. Er gebeurt eigenlijk niets, totdat iemand het aandurft om aan het rad te draaien. Met dat simpele gebaar kiest het publiek niet alleen het muziekstuk uit, maar wekt het ook de muzikanten tot leven; zij spelen vervolgens het gekozen werk, als een levende jukebox.
JÁTÉK-BOX is een interactieve voorstelling, gecreëerd om György Kurtág te eren en te vieren ter gelegenheid van zijn honderdste verjaardag.
De voorstelling haakt in op het speelse karakter van Kurtágs *Játékok* – een verzameling pianominiaturen waarvan de titel in het Hongaars letterlijk 'spelletjes' betekent – en verandert de muziek zelf in een spel: het publiek kiest niet alleen willekeurig welk stuk wordt uitgevoerd, maar kan de spelers ook verstoren en de stukken tijdens de uitvoering aanpassen.
Tot wel twintig originele arrangementen transformeren deze pianostukken tot muziek voor een ensemble van piano, percussie, fluit, trombone en cello.
De installatie, ontworpen en gebouwd door kunstenaar Monika Nowak, trekt die speelse geest door tot buiten het podium en nodigt het publiek uit om zelf de veelzijdigheid en creativiteit van Kurtágs miniaturen te ontdekken. Kom ze zelf verkennen!
Sketch351 is een ensemble uit Den Haag. Deze groep van vijf eigenzinnige muzikanten verkent momenteel een performatieve benadering van hedendaagse muziek, geworteld in humor en speelsheid. Monika Nowak is een multidisciplinair kunstenaar. Haar werk omvat performances, video, installaties en teksten – vaak doordrenkt van een uitgesproken theatrale gevoeligheid.

Inside a playground-like structure, five musicians wait in silence. Nothing really happens until someone dares to spin the wheel. With that simple gesture, the audience both selects the musical piece and awakens the musicians who are now prompt to play the selected work, as if they were a living jukebox.
JÁTÉK-BOX is an interactive performance conceived to honor and celebrate György Kurtág on the occasion of his 100th birthday.
Picking up on the inherent playfulness of the composer’s Játékok — a collection of miniature pieces for solo piano whose title literally means "games" in Hungarian — the performance turns this music into a game: the audience not only randomly chooses which piece is performed, but can also disrupt the players and alter the pieces as they unfold.
Up to twenty original arrangements transform these solo piano pieces into music for an ensemble of piano, percussion, flute, trombone, and cello.
The installation, designed and built by artist Monika Nowak, extends this spirit of play beyond the stage, inviting the audience to explore the flexibility and creativity of Kurtág's miniatures firsthand. Come find them yourself!
