The spotlights are dimmed, warming up the room and filling the air with the slight smell of something burning. All eyes are fixed on the empty stage, the playwright shuffles their legs nervously in the audience. Installed in the floor of the stage is a whisperer’s booth, built from light wood, due to the stage’s small measurements a bit too close to where the performer will stand. The audience has been waiting for a bit too long for the play to start. A videocamera placed in the middle of the spectators is ready to record everything. It is obvious that it holds exclusive rights over image capture. From the side entrance, left of the stage the whisperer enters, in a costume, gets on their knees and climbs into the hole in the stage. Taking their script that has been laying on top of the prompter’s booth, they push it aside making way for them to get into the hole underneath. Putting their arms out of the hole they grab the booth and place it where it is meant to be, covering their head and the hole itself. Suddenly all spotlights go on at full intensity, blinding the audience. After a few seconds of everyone being startled, anticipatory silence fills the room…
Maxim Preaux and Tim Bartel will perform as performer and whisperer on the 15th of December at 8PM in the play
